We’re making incredible strides at the Historic Hopper Academy and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel for our Georgetown Community Garden build-out. Every fence post, raised bed, and shovel of soil has been made possible by our amazing volunteers.

Thank you to everyone who has shown up, given their time, and poured love into this space. Georgetown is growing—literally—and we’re so grateful. 💚🌱

🌿 One step closer! The perimeter fencing is officially up around the Georgetown Community Garden!

Next up on our countdown to the Sanford Historic Garden Tour: a charming bungalow bursting with life! 🌿🏡

Adorned with vegetable plantings, this stop belongs to none other than Sanford’s District 1 Commissioner. Not only does she know her stuff in local politics, but she’s also a passionate and knowledgeable gardener. Her edible landscape is a true inspiration, blending beauty and function in the most delightful way.

Visitors can enjoy a “plant your own vegetable” station and take in a charming tablescape that showcases the art of garden-to-table living. Adding to the experience, plein air artist, Dodi Truenow, will be capturing the scene, with artwork available for purchase. Plus, the musical duo Devin & Gage will set the perfect ambiance with their live performance.

We are thrilled to announce the development of the Sanford Botanical Garden, a 1.5 acre project in partnership with the City of Sanford. This beautiful garden will border the Sanford Museum and Lake Carola, creating a serene and educational space for the community to enjoy.

The conceptual design for the garden has been officially approved by the City of Sanford, and we are now in the process of finalizing the plant list and budget. Our fundraising efforts will begin in 2026, and we invite you to be a part of this exciting initiative that will enrich the cultural and environmental landscape of our city.

The Sanford Botanical Garden will feature a diverse collection of plants, sustainable landscaping practices, and educational opportunities for visitors of all ages. This project is a key part of our commitment to telling the story of Sanford through nature, history, and the arts.

Georgetown Community Garden

We've partnered with the Historic Hopper Academy to bring a community garden to the neighborhood of Georgetown. The design and budget has been set. A committee of passionate gardeners has been formed to maintain the garden. The Sanford Cultural Guild is facilitating the installation of the garden. The site currently functions as a community center, and the garden will be an important addition to this historic location. Slated for installation Fall 2025!
